Video unlocks car crime

FOUR cars stolen in Greater Dandenong in the past week had one important thing in common – their keys were in the ignition.
It’s an all-too-common scenario in the municipality, according to Greater Dandenong CIU, so the unit is getting behind the Victoria Police campaign The Thankful Thief.
The social media movement is designed to educate the community about theft of and from motor vehicles.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said last quarter’s crime statistics showed that both crimes were increasing in frequency and often took place because doors were unlocked or valuables were in plain sight.
