More than satisfactory

Greater Dandenong Council received a positive report card from ratepayers in the Community Satisfaction Survey.
The municipality ranked well above the state average in all areas in the State Government-conducted assessment.
Greater Dandenong either out-performed or equalled the average results from 17 other metropolitan councils.
The council’s overall direction result was 10 points higher than the state average and six points higher than the metropolitan area average.
Customer service was among Greater Dandenong’s highest performing areas, scoring 76 compared to the state average of 69.
Mayor Heang Tak said the council had maintained its results from previous years and this year made improvements in community engagement.
“At Greater Dandenong we pride ourselves on being an open and transparent council who consults widely with our community,” he said.
“As Victoria’s most culturally and linguistically diverse community it is pleasing to see our community feel engaged and informed.”
Local Government Minister Natalie Hutchins said that more than 28,000 Victorians across 69 municipalities were this year interviewed about their council’s performance for the survey.
She said the overall results showed libraries, arts centres, the appearance of public areas and waste management were the best-rated council services.
Emergency management, waste, community decisions and unsealed roads were the most important services and issues for ratepayers.
“The Community Satisfaction Survey is an important tool that helps councils align their work with areas for improvement and the views of their communities,” she said.
“In conjunction with the data on Know Your Council, this survey provides a good basis for ratepayers to assess their council.”
