Migrants and refugees improved their job-seeking skills in Dandenong.
Professionals from global corporate consulting firm Deloitte helped about 60 new arrivals to Australia in a mentoring session at settlement agency AMES Australia on Friday 18 November.
The migrants are all studying English with AMES with a view to getting their first jobs in Australia.
The mentoring event, dubbed Impact Day, involved the students receiving insights into networking, job interviews, teamwork, personal presentation and job applications.
AMES Australia teacher Luke Treadwell said the Deloitte mentors gave valuable advice to the students about Australian workplace culture.
“It is difficult for migrants in Australia to find work, so it is very valuable to get advice from people at Deloitte,” he said.
“They have imparted really useful information about job interviews here in Australia and how to present yourself.
“The Deloitte people also spoke about the importance of teamwork in a work situation and also about showing initiative and being enterprising.”
