Two Dandenong dairy businesses shared $21,500 in grants to reduce their energy use.
Yogurt manufacturer Chobani received $12,800 through the State Government’s Boosting Business Productivity Program.
Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams said an energy assessment found the company could save up to $200,000 or 17 per cent of site energy use each year.
She said Moondarra Cheese was the largest manufacturer of flavoured cream cheese in Australia and received $8600.
It has identified opportunities to reduce energy consumption by $95,000 a year across its automatic controls, procedures and energy purchasing arrangements.
Ms Williams said both businesses were now working with an experienced energy consultant to further identify potential energy efficiency improvements and review pricing.
“Energy assessments are a great opportunity for a business to improve their productivity while also reducing operating costs,” she said.
“This will make a real difference by helping local business to save on energy bills and reduce waste.”
Sustainability Victoria delivers the program, which supports businesses through three different efficiency grants – a sustainable finance service, training events, and information resources.
The Energy Assessment Grants are open to businesses spending more than $20,000 a year on energy.
