Award for giving back

By Casey Neill

Manzoor Nazari is passionate about his community.

The Hampton Park 21-year-old received the multi-cultural award at the Greater Dandenong Australia Day Awards in Dandenong Park on Friday 26 January in recognition of his efforts.
He told the Journal he was “very happy” with the recognition.

“I really love to be part of the community and give back to the community wherever I can,” he said.
Manzoor is from Afghanistan and previously lived in Dandenong, where he attended Lyndale Secondary College from Year 10.

He has been a FReeZA committee member since about 2013 and was part of Greater Dandenong Council’s 2016 Young Leaders Program.
“Since 2013 as well, I was a part of SECL (South East Community Links) as a youth leader,” he said.

He’s been involved with the council’s Australia Day Festival through FReeZA, organising the youth stage and last year hosting the stage.
“I’ve learnt a lot of things from being part of it,” Manzoor said.

“That’s what I’m passionate about.”

He’s now a first year electrical apprentice.
