Soccer kids take on cops

By Casey Neill

More than 500 people watched and took part in the 2K18 Street Style Soccer Tournament.
The City of Greater Dandenong hold the event at JC Mills Reserve in Dandenong on Thursday 25 January in partnership with Entrepreneurs Movement Club (EMC).
Young people aged 12 to 25 years were invited to compete in the friendly contest.
Sukart Alex from EMC said the day was excellent.
“The wider community enjoyed it. It was really good for us to see them enjoy it,” he said.
“The numbers were quite high in under-14s and under-16s.”
He said this was the fifth event of its kind.
“We’ve made a mark with it now, people are looking forward to it,” Mr Alex said.
“It was the perfect time to do it, the day before Australia Day and while kids were finishing off their school holidays.
“Straight away we got positive feedback and people were asking us about our next one.
“We thought April would be perfect, the next school holidays.”
The event included a match between young people and police.
“Having the police there is really great,” Mr Alex said.
“We’ve had a good relationship with them throughout all of our projects.
“We wanted to get them involved.
“They love the community engagement.
“They were there from the morning even though their exhibition game wasn’t until 2pm.”
He said EMC had a variety of events planned for the year, ranging from sports to entrepreneurship.
Events will be advertised on the EMC Facebook page and through the council’s youth services team.
