Greater Dandenong businesses raised a record $13,000 for charities at an annual football-themed lunch.
Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce vice president Roy Sanderson handed $9000 to Make-A-Wish Australia and $4000 to the Caroline Chisholm Education Foundation on Wednesday 7 February.
He’s also the chamber’s Grand Final Charity Lunch chairman.
The event was held on Wednesday 27 September last year at Southern Golf Club and featured former Collingwood legend Dane Swan as the guest speaker.
Guests heard stories from Swan’s time on and off the field, and participated in live and silent auctions and a raffle to raise cash.
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children aged 3-18 who are battling life-threatening illnesses to bring hope, strength and joy.
Caroline Chisholm Education Foundation helps students in financial hardship to continue their studies at Chisholm Institute.
This year will be the event’s 19th. Over the years it has raised more than $200,000 for charities.
Mr Sanderson has been there for every lunch.
“This annual event has become a highlight in the calendar of many businesses in the area,” he said.
“Everyone knows that they will come along, have a great day out, and raise some much-needed money for some worthy charities.”
The 2018 Grand Final Charity Lunch will be held on Wednesday 26 September at Southern Gold Club.
A guest speaker is still to be announced.
