Contrast art across Dandenong

A suburb-wide art exhibition will explore dark and light, evil and innocence.

Odile takes inspiration from the sinister and seductive black swan in Tchaikovsky’s classic Swan

Lake, contrasted with the innocent white swan Odette.

Each of the 11 artists involved in the multi-venue display will explore ideas around good and evil and performance and identity.

The exhibition is designed for visitors to explore through a self-guided walking tour.

Odile will open at 2pm on Saturday 5 May and the works will be on display at Walker Street Gallery and Arts Centre, Heritage Hill Museum and Historic Gardens, Drum Theatre and Garnar Lane.

At Walker Street, the launch will include a drawing performance from Gosia Wlodarczak, a screening of 23 Degrees West by Vanessa White, and a spoken word performance from Zakia Baig.

There’ll also be artwork on display by Zoe Croggan, Juan Ford, Jenny Holzer, Polixeni Papapetrou, Anne Ferran, Vanessa White and Gosia Wlodarczak.

The gallery will be open from 2pm to 5pm.

Heritage Hill will host artwork from Kyoko Imazu, Hung Lin, Tarryn Gill and Kate Rhode from 2pm to 3.30pm.

The exhibition curator will also be there for the launch, together with artist Hung Lin.

The Drum Theatre foyer will host artworks from Tarryn Gill from 2pm to 3.30pm.

In Garnar Lane, artist Kyoko Imazu will speak about her artworks from 2pm to 3.30pm.

Odile runs until Saturday 23 June.

The exhibition is part of the Creative Victoria-funded [SUB] URBAN Studio Program.
