Thieves have tried to steal an ATM during a ram-raid at a Keysborough shopping centre.
A stolen truck rammed the front of a lottery outlet near the corner of Kingsclere Avenue and Corrigan Road shortly after 5am on 21 August, a police spokesperson said.
“At least two offenders attempted to take an ATM machine but were unsuccessful before fleeing in another vehicle, described as a green Holden Commodore.“
Police believe the truck was stolen from a property on Hammond Road, Dandenong earlier that morning.
Hours later, a morning shopper Mark said he was shocked by the sight of the “huge flat-tray truck” fully immersed in the building.
“It’s gone right through the double-sliding doors – it’s the whole length of the truck.
“There’s a lot of carnage and debris there and a whole bunch of police officers there.”
Police had still cordoned off the area at mid-morning, Mark said.
“It’s the weirdest way to start your day.
“You don’t expect to see this at your local shops.”
