Freeway crash driver faces charges

An alleged drug-drink driver is expected to be charged after a high-speed police chase ended in a crash on Monash Freeway, Mulgrave.

The man and his female passenger were taken to hospital with minor injuries after their white Mercedes van rolled and crashed into a concrete barrier near Jacksons Road about 8.15am on Sunday 28 July.

Earlier, Nunawading Highway Patrol police observed the van allegedly speeding at 142 km/h in the 100 km/h zone.

Police followed the van. They say it changed lanes erratically, lost control and crashed.

The man is expected to be later interviewed and charged with conduct endangering life, drink and drug driving and other traffic offences.

The female was released without charge.
