Police detectives are investigating a suspicious fire that gutted a gym in Noble Park North overnight as well as possible links to a spate of other commercial fires.

Emergency services were alerted to the building fire at the corner of Overseas Drive and Princes Highway about 11pm on Tuesday 13 August.

FRV crews arrived minutes later, finding the 1500-square-metre building fully engulfed in fire.

“Firefighters were unable to conduct a primary search of the building, however all occupants were accounted for,’ an FRV spokesperson said.

“Crews prepared to attack the fire internally and set up arial appliances to black out hot spots.”

The fire was declared under control by 12.50am.

Emergency Vic had issued an alert message about visible smoke in the area.

Meanwhile, Victoria Police has put a crime scene guard in place while investigating the crime scene.

“At this stage, the fire is being treated as suspicious,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

The spate of recent suspicious fires include a factory on Healey Road, Dandenong South the previous night, igniting about 2.30am on 13 August.

There was also a suspicious ram-raid fire that damaged three shops on Heyington Crescent, Noble Park North early on Friday 19 July, as well as a factory in Tower Court, Noble Park on 12-13 July.

“Investigators will look at any possible links to other recent fires,” the police spokesperson said.
