Noble Park North gym fire downgraded to non-suspicious

Victoria Police has downgraded a fire that gutted a gym in Noble Park North overnight as non-suspicious.

Emergency services were alerted to the building fire at the corner of Overseas Drive and Princes Highway about 11pm on Tuesday 13 August.

FRV crews arrived minutes later, finding the 1500-square-metre building fully engulfed in fire.

“Firefighters were unable to conduct a primary search of the building, however all occupants were accounted for,’ an FRV spokesperson said.

“Crews prepared to attack the fire internally and set up arial appliances to black out hot spots.”

Firefighters requested a power company to switch off high-voltage powerlines. The fire was declared under control by 12.50am and initially deemed as suspicious, the FRV stated.

Emergency Vic had issued an alert message about visible smoke in the area.

Meanwhile, police are not treating the blaze as suspicious after an arson chemist attended on 14 August.

Police are continuing to investigate.

A spate of recent suspicious fires include a factory on Healey Road, Dandenong South the previous night, igniting about 2.30am on 13 August.

There was also a suspicious ram-raid fire that damaged three shops on Heyington Crescent, Noble Park North early on Friday 19 July, as well as a factory in Tower Court, Noble Park on 12-13 July and three other gyms in Hallam, Dandenong and Narre Warren.

Any information on the fires to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersvic.com.au
