Tonnes of eggs dumped in Carrum Downs

TWO tonnes of boxed and chilled egg pulp were illegally dumped in a drain beside Rossiters Road, Carrum Downs, last month.

About 200 boxes of pulp and pre-made omelettes, which are used by bakeries and commercial food manufacturers, were dumped near Melbourne Water’s Eastern Treatment Plant and agricultural farmland on April 25-26.

Environment Protection Authority southern metro manager Bronwyn Green said: “We are concerned about environmental impacts from this amount of food product entering our waterways.” Harsh penalties applied to illegally dumping industrial waste, she said.

Anyone with information about the incident can call EPA’s pollution hotline on 1300 372 842.
