Springvale lockdown lifted, suspect still on the run

By Cameron Lucadou-Wells

POLICE have called off a lockdown of Springvale South but a man wanted in relation to an alleged aggravated burglary is still at large.

The police cordon blocking Olympic Avenue, Wardale Road, Levin Street, Bellview Court, Woodstock Place and Belinda Court was called off just before 5pm.

Police had been searching for a man following an alleged aggravated burglary in Catherine Court, Langwarrin at 9.20am.

The man was believed to have threatened a woman with a weapon and demanded her mobile and car keys.

He fled in a blue Mazda sedan, and was allegedly involved in a petrol drive-off in Arthurs Seat Road, Red Hill.

Police tried to intercept the car on Arthurs Seat Road and pursued the car to Hastings, until the pursuit was called off by a police supervisor about noon.

A police airwing helicopter spotted the vehicle on Princes Highway and the car’s occupants ‘‘went to ground’’ at a house in Olympic Avenue, Springvale South about 1.30pm.

The police canine squad and airwing searched the area but failed to find the man.

Police described the offender as aged 20-30 and 175 centimetres, with dark hair and a thin build. He was wearing a dark blue jumper.

Anyone with information about these incidents can call Crime Stoppers, 1800 333 000 or visit crimestoppers.com.au.
