Premier Cricket: Panthers locked in semi showdown

DANDENONG Panthers were batting for a place in the Premier Cricket semi-finals yesterday afternoon.

In the Panthers’ quarter-final against St Kilda at Shepley Oval, rain destroyed much of the first day’s play on Saturday and left the Saints in a desperate position yesterday.

After resuming play on 3-74 the Saints pushed to make some form of defendable total, declaring at 5-163 from 46 overs in hope of bowling out the Panthers and stealing a win.

Panthers captain Darren Pattinson recovered from a hamstring twinge last round to take 1-25 from 12 overs and Justin Butterfield took 2-25.

Graeme Rummans (73) and Andrew McGuinness (64) held the Saints’ innings together as other batsmen fell cheaply.

When the Journal went to print the Panthers were 4-135 from from 37 overs with Tom Donnell (79) leading the chase before going out.
