Keysborough: Pet boxer Maxie shot through the head

By Adrian Lowe, The Age

A KEYSBOROUGH man wants answers after one of his pet dogs was shot in the head at home last month.

Jamie Macgregor has told police that he heard his pets barking at cars passing his property in Kirkham Road West about 7.15pm on April 5.

Mr Macgregor said he then heard what sounded like a shot and one of the dogs yelping.

When he went outside to check on the animals, he found his seven-year-old Boxer, Maxie, bleeding from his head.

“I could hear cars hooning up and down the street,” he said. “Maxie was barking and then I heard a shot.

“Maxie started yelping and I went outside. He was covered in blood and I hugged him.”

Mr Macgregor called police and bandaged Maxie’s head. It is believed a small bullet hit Maxie beside his left eye and went through his head, a police spokeswoman said. The bullet came out of Maxie’s head below his jaw. He is recovering from his injuries.

Police are investigating and particularly want anyone who saw vehicles travelling nearby at the time to come forward.

Mr Macgregor said his dogs were part of his family.

“Maxie is a part of my family,” he said. “I spend my pension feeding him and the rest of my dogs.”

Anyone with information is asked to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
