Noble Park home raided in massive drugs bust

A NOBLE Park home was among several raided in a police operation that this week saw $205 million in methamphetamine seized and two people charged.
The joint investigation involved Australian Federal Police (AFP), Australian Crime Commission (ACC), Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and Victoria Police.
Last month Customs and Border Protection officers targeted a shipping container for examination.
In April, the ACC provided further intelligence that indicated the container was high risk.
Customs and Border Protection officers examined the container, which had arrived in Melbourne from Hong Kong with 3332 bottles of carpet stain cleaner, and discovered methamphetamine in several bottles.
Further examination revealed 96 of the bottles contained methamphetamine suspended in liquid, adding up to about 365 litres.
Further forensic testing will confirm the substance’s weight and purity, but it’s estimated to weigh up to 280 kilograms and be worth up to $205 million.
On 8 April the AFP partnered with Victoria Police, Customs and Border Protection and the ACC for a controlled delivery, where two people were arrested for importing and attempting to possess the methamphetamine.
Search warrants were subsequently executed across Melbourne on Tuesday, which included residential properties in Noble Park, Kew, Box Hill, Clayton South and Footscray.
Further search warrants were executed in Narre Warren on Wednesday morning.
The AFP arrested a 45-year-old Hong Kong national and a 31-year-old Canadian national in relation to the seizure, and they faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday).
The investigation is continuing in Australia and overseas and further arrests have not been ruled out.
