Gallery: Dandenong Thunder into Knockout Cup semis

By DAVID SCHOUT

DANDENONG Thunder is through to the semi-finals of the State Knockout Cup after a
pulsating 6-5 penalty shootout win against Werribee City on Tuesday night.

In
a see-sawing affair at George Andrews Reserve, Dandenong led on two
separate occasions only to be pulled back by the competitive state
league one outfit, which equalised with 10 minutes to go.

After the score was locked at 3-3 after 90 minutes, the ensuing 30 minutes of extra-time could not separate the two sides.

As
the game went to spot kicks, all penalties were scored by both sides
until Thunder goalkeeper Zaim Zeneli saved Werribee’s sixth shot.

This left new Dandenong defender Thomas Shannon with the chance to send his side to the next round, which he duly did.

The
Thunder will now play fellow Victorian Premier League side Sunshine George Cross
in the semi-finals at a neutral venue to be announced on Monday.

South Melbourne will play Green Gully in the other semi-final.
