Skating takes off

By CASEY NEILL

GET your skates on, or pick up your bike or skateboard – there’s $250,000 on its way to a new skate park in Noble Park.
Sport and Recreation Minister Hugh Delahunty announced the cash at Ross Reserve on Wednesday 6 November, with a further $750,000 from City of Greater Dandenong.
The project will include a plaza, street course, bowl, snake run, vertical ramp, rails, beginner’s bank, seating, lighting, public art, paths and landscaping.
“Skate parks provide an important place for young people to become part of the skating culture and test their skills,” Mr Delahunty said.
“This project will deliver top skating facilities in Noble Park, providing a great base to establish development programs and host youth and family events.
“The new skate park will complement the other quality sports facilities at the reserve, such as the Noble Park Aquatic Centre, and inject new life into this important community sport and recreation hub.”
Then-mayor, councillor Angela Long, said the grant was another step towards completing the Ross Reserve precinct redevelopment.
“This major park has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years, thanks to the Ross Reserve Master Plan,” she said.
“This ambitious long-term community project has included the new Noble Park Aquatic Centre, the redeveloped Ross Reserve athletics track, installation of floodlighting and the current youth and urban skate park project.
“This contemporary urban park will provide our community – in particular our children and young people – with a safe and enjoyable place to meet.”
