Abbotts Road to stay open

By CASEY NEILL

ABBOTTS Road will stay open, the State Government has announced.
The Level Crossing Removal Authority in February revealed plans to shut the Dandenong South thoroughfare at its level crossing and build a new road bridge connecting Remington Drive to Pound Road West.
Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams on Monday 23 May said the option was off the table.
She said the decision was a victory for local residents and businesses, who had all advocated for Abbotts Road to stay open.
Ms Williams said the dangerous and congested level crossing would be removed by a road or rail bridge at Abbotts Road, or by lowering the road or tracks.
LXRA has established a business liaison group to provide ongoing feedback throughout the planning and development stages.
It will start a second public consultation phase in coming months.
“I thank the local community for their passion and advocacy – your feedback has helped shape this project for the better and will continue to be critical to the planning and design of this level crossing removal,“ Ms Williams said.
