Dandenong Market Jubilee

Dandenong Market officially opened on 10 October, 1866, and is the second oldest market in Melbourne.
It will celebrate its 150th year with several events, including a jubilee day filled with activities.

  • Dandenong Market, corner Clow and Cleeland streets, Dandenong. Sunday 16 October, 10am to 3pm.


Paper characters

Multimedia artist Jacqui Stockdale will show participants how to make simple stand-up characters with movable parts using split pins at this free workshop.

  • Walker Street Gallery, corner Walker and Robinson streets, Dandenong. Saturday 15 October, noon to 2pm.


Digging Deeper

This Me and My Dad workshop will teach children aged seven to 11 years and a parent or carer to examine rocks and learn about the rocky cycle.

  • Level two, Dandenong Library, 225 Lonsdale Street, Dandenong. Saturday 15 October, 2pm to 3.30pm. Call 1300 630 920 for bookings.


Wildflower walk

A park ranger will lead walkers through bushland to discover wildflowers, nesting birds, frogs and insects.
The event will be cancelled in heavy rain.

  • Alex Wilkie Nature Reserve, Mackay Street, Springvale South, Sunday 16 October, 10am to 11am. Bookings are essential as places are limited. Call 8571 1702.


Spring into wellness

This free community event will mark the Mental Health and Carers’ Weeks with a focus on promoting wellbeing through activities such as yoga, laughing groups and tai chi.
Entertainment will include musicians and other performance artists, a petting zoo and jumping castle.
There’ll be stalls where people can seek advice and information.

  • Dandenong Park, corner Foster and Pultney streets, Dandenong. Sunday 16 October, 10am to 3pm.

Deborah Kelly exhibition

No Human Being Is Illegal (in all our glory) is a life-sized portrait project, initially commissioned for the 19th Biennale of Sydney in 2014. The 20 photographic portraits have evolved into collage works.
