Curbing stray cat numbers

Sixty Greater Dandenong cat owners did their bit to curb strays on the streets.

The council partnered with the Lost Dogs’ Home to bring a mobile pet care van to Burden Park in Springvale South on Wednesday 2 May.

Councillor Roz Blades said 60 residents took advantage of the $60 service for their much-loved moggies.

“This service included desexing, microchipping and animal registration until April 2019,” she said.

“We want our residents to be responsible pet owners, and we want to make it easier for them to do the right thing.

“We will consider running more events in the future.”

Cr Blades said there were many benefits to desexing cats, including reducing the stray cat population when unwanted litters are left to fend for themselves.

“Desexing can also have medical benefits for cats,” she said.
