BMW clue to Hallam shooting

Police have released CCTV vision of a champagne-coloured BMW near the scene of a near-fatal “targeted” shooting of a 54-year-old Dandenong man in a home in Hallam.

Three men got out of the sedan to attend the Nettle Drive home and got in an altercation with the man and his 34-year-old female partner about 6.10pm on Sunday 6 October.

During the confrontation, the victim was shot in the abdomen.

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad believe at least three shots were fired.

The wounded man was then driven by his partner to hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Detective Superintendant Peter Brigham said the man “narrowly avoided being killed”.

“We believe it was specifically targeted on the victim.”

The victim was “cooperative” but still had concerns for his safety, Det Supt Brigham said.

“He has had extensive surgery and he’ll probably have ongoing health issues as a consequence of his injuries.”

The BMW sedan is believed to be a 2004-’07 model, with a “distinctive” slimline European-style Victorian number plate beginning with the letter ‘V’.

It was not believed to have been stolen, Det Supt Brigham said.

Police and the victim were unsure of the motive for the attack.

There was no evidence of outlaw motorcycle gang involvement but it hadn’t been ruled out either, Det Supt Brigham said.

Any information on the car, the shooting and the offenders to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersvic.com.au
