Family in shock after brazen home attack

By Nicole Williams
A DANDENONG North family were forced to lock themselves in a room while their property was attacked on the weekend.
A 40-year-old woman, with a 17-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy locked themselves in a room while three youths trashed their cars and home on Sunday night.
Detective Senior Constable Nick Lamb from Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit said the incident had left the family shaken.
“The victims are in shock and in fear for further incidents that might occur,” Det Sen Const Lamb said.
Police believe two females and one male arrived at the Gladstone Road property between 10.30pm and 11pm on Sunday night in a light-coloured Holden Statesman sedan and demanded a resident come outside.
When no one appeared, the youths jumped on two cars parked outside, collapsing the roofs and smashing windows and rear view mirrors.
“They have gone crazy on the cars,” Det Sen Const Lamb said.
“They then gained entry to the house where victims had locked themselves in a room.”
The youths didn’t stay inside the house long but left smashed windows and damaged furniture before running from the house and driving away in the light-coloured sedan.
Det Sen Const said the cars would likely be written-off and the total damage bill would be over $20,000.
Soon after incident, Det Sen Cons Lamb said “there was talk on Facebook among local youth in the area” so police hope someone will come forward with information.
Police also believe neighbours may have seen the attack or a registration number of the car.
Witnesses or any one with information are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Dandenong CIU on 9767 7487.
