A DANDENONG builder has been recognised by the Building Commission for his commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training.
Director of TM Building Group Tamer Mitwally was awarded a 12-point CPD Excellence Award and $2000 to put towards further learning at the presentation ceremony on 31 March.
“I was actually quite proud (to win),” Mr Mitwally said.
“It was quite a good feeling and I want to keep this up.”
Last year he completed over 800 hours of CPD in studying for a Certificate III in Occupational Health and Safety, which involved training staff, contractors and suppliers in their duty-of-care in reducing workplace accidents.
“Continuous learning has aided me to accomplish my goals for the year 2010 and given me infinite possibilities in my construction career,” he said.
The Building Commissioner Tony Arnel said it was important for building practitioners to keep up to date with new skills, technologies and regulations.
“This is an excellent demonstration of an outstanding Registered Building Practitioner keen to learn, apply new learning principles to this business and make a better workplace for staff and a safer built environment,” Mr Arnel said.
Mr Mitwally intends to keep studying to improve his skills as a project manager and knowledge of occupational, health and safety practices.
After the win, Mr Mitwally was offered a position at the Master Builders as a trainer and assessor, which he now does in additional to his own business.
CPD awards recognise Registered Building Practitioners who have excelled through further training and development.
