SOGGY soil made for subpar cricket on Saturday – with Dandenong’s cross-town clash against Casey-South Melbourne reduced to two overs.
Shepley Oval was deemed unfit to play on by the umpires as an over each from Justin Butterfield and James Wilcock dug up the crease dramatically.
Casey’s batsmen Josh Holden (3no) and Daniel Watson (2no) had to deal with the unpredictable pitch after rain during the week postponed the start of the match until 2pm.
In the Second XI showdown at Casey Fields, Dandenong emerged victorious, with resolute fifties from Charith Cooray (62) and Trent Cody (57) helping post 9/191 from the Panthers’ 50 overs.
In response, Peter Sweeney (3/16) and Damien Bulakowski (3/22) ripped through the Swans line-up to restrict the home side to 178 from 49 overs.
Dandenong will face Essendon in their first two-dayer, starting this weekend at Windy Hill.
