Double joy for Rangers’ fans

SEABL – round 7

A DANDY double greeted Rangers fans on Saturday night as Dandenong overcame Frankston.
Lighting up the court down the stretch, Dandenong pushed through a 93-71 win with 20-point quarters throughout the clash against the Blues – including a 12-on-15 field goal final term 28-point blitz.
Dandenong’s assist game proved too hard for Frankston to stop as the Rangers piled on 21-to-eight dish offs through the likes of rising star Michael Wearne (5 points, 6 assists) and inside presence Brent Hobba (1 point, 10 rebounds, 5 assists).
Coach Darren Perry was able to give his star imports – Daequon Montreal (26 points, 9 rebounds) and Tony Lewis (21 points, 8 rebounds) a decent break as the whole team took Frankston to town.
Calvin Enge (15 points) found his way to the basket with ease while Dwayne Campbell (9 points) and Owen Odigie (9 points) also stepped up to fill the void left by Andrew Harms’ absence.
The win takes Dandenong men back to a .500 season with four wins and four losses and the third placed Eastern conference Rangers will face Ballarat at home on Sunday.
Dandenong women similarly gunned past Frankston for a 72-65 win on the back of stellar first and last terms.
The Rangers went to sleep through the middle terms – scoring nine and 12 respectively – as Frankston took a four-point lead into the last term.
Stepping up under pressure were Dandenong’s young point-guard and centre combination in Aimie Clydesdale (21 points) and Lauren Scherf (16 points, 12 rebounds).
Dandenong is relishing its time with Larissa Anderson back into the SEABL coaching ranks with a 6-1 record the best in the SEABL East on the back of a five-game winning streak.
Dandenong women will face Ballarat, featuring former Dandenong triple SEABL premiership player Steph Cumming.
