HOLDING on for a crucial win, Dandenong’s SEABL road-trip to Canberra proved fruitful, snaring an 82-79 win over the Gunners.
In a classic coin-flip, free throws fell in for Daequon Montreal (29 points, eight rebounds) and Andrew Harms (10 points, seven rebounds) in the dying seconds against Canberra to snatch the three-point victory.
Tony Lewis (seven points, nine rebounds) was serviceable but down on his usual numbers.
The win keeps Dandenong on 50 per cent win rate but, more importantly, helps the Rangers leapfrog Canberra into fourth in the SEABL East Conference.
Facing the Capitals Academy, the Dandenong women had no such luck – downed by eight points as the Capitals shared the ball around to devastating effect.
Four Capitals had better than five points/five rebounds – as Dandenong failed to match pace on the glass in the 48-56 loss.
Too much of the scoring burden was left to Amelia Todhunter (21 points, eight rebounds), with young Rangers Aimie Clydesdale (eight points) and Tenaya Phillips (seven points, nine rebounds) asked to step up.
The Rangers hold on to second in the SEABL East with a 7-2 record.
Dandenong hosts the Sandringham Sabres in a double-header on Saturday from 5.30pm.
