Ribbon through the city

A WALK for White Ribbon Day will make its way through central Dandenong tomorrow (Tuesday).
It will start at The Kitchen at Dandenong Market at 9.45am and travel to the Drum Theatre, corner Lonsdale and Walker streets, Dandenong.
There Phil Cleary, magistrate Leslie Fleming and other guests will speak about the impact of family violence and what everyone can do to prevent it.
The White Ribbon Day Walk is designed to raise awareness and promote relationships between men and women based on respect and equality.
“Sadly violence against women is the major cause of preventable death among women in the prime of their lives and the main cause of homelessness,” councillor Angela Long said.
“Family violence affects one in six women and one in four children with people from all walks of life impacted.”
Also marking White Ribbon Day on 25 November is a free community art exhibition at Laurel Lodge at Heritage Hill in McCrae Street, Dandenong.
Behind the Veil celebrates survival and was produced by those who’ve experienced or know someone who has experienced family violence.
It’s open between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday and noon to 4pm Sundays until 6 December.
