IRON-GUT contestants are set to embark on an unthinkable, and perhaps unsinkable, solo challenge – to eat a monstrous 1.6-kilogram, 16-inch kebab.
Four real-estate agents will be making this gastronomic sacrifice for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, part of a family fun day including a flashy car show, silent auction and children’s entertainment.
Organiser Joanne Pollina says some have already tried the challenge with mixed and occasionally messy results – one kept it down, another didn’t.
She raised $7500 last year offering a joyride in her yellow 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder convertible as one of the auction lots.
The same alluring prize is up for grabs this month, as well as a drive in a Mazda RX3 Rotary, a year’s supply of Johnny Boy’s Pizza, a year’s supply of Kebab King kebabs and $500 worth of car detailing.
Car buffs are also invited to enter a car show.
The people’s choice first prize is a weekend away at a Lorne resort.
Fortunately for the entrants, Ms Pollina’s jaw-dropping convertible won’t be contending for the prize.
The family fun day is on Good Friday, 18 April at 320 Cheltenham Road, Dandenong, from 10am (opposite Parkmore shopping centre).
