STUDENTS welcomed problems – and solved them – at the third annual Greater Dandenong District Maths Games Day.
Keysborough Primary School hosted 208 maths students from 20 City of Greater Dandenong schools on 26 August.
“I believe that this maths games day is one of the biggest ever held in Victoria,” acting principal Ian Archbold said.
“The aim of the day is promote numeracy in Literacy and Numeracy Week and to encourage young mathematicians.”
The students were involved in problem solving, mental maths, constructing shapes with tangrams and strategy games.
“Our school has taken part in Maths Association of Victoria Maths Games Days previously but these are often held on the other side of the city and many local schools cannot attend,” Mr Archbold said.
“Three years ago our maths coach, Peter Murray, and myself decided to organise a maths games day for the local schools in our area.
“Over the last three years the numbers have steadily increased.”
