A 30-HOUR siege in Noble Park involving a man throwing tiles and flaming objects at police was brought to an end this afternoon through non-lethal means.
A 46-year-old man – living in Moodemere St, Noble Park – held police at bay from 10.15am on Friday morning to 4.10pm this afternoon as he tried to flee via neighbouring houses.
After the individual tried to access neighbouring roofs by jumping from his house, the response team took action and fired non-lethal shots at the man to subdue and subsequently arrest him.
A Victoria Police media spokesperson said the Critical Incident Response Team moved in and arrested the man after started jumping roofs, which put the neighbourhood at an unacceptable risk.
“The man began jumping to roofs of neighbouring houses this afternoon, placing members of public at risk and the police used non-lethal tactics to affect the arrest,” the spokesperson said.
The man was taken to Dandenong Hospital with minor injuries and no charges have been laid so far.
The siege began Friday morning after a member of his family reported the 46-year-old man to authorities.
The police arrived at the house last night around midnight as the man’s behaviour became more erratic – hurling flaming socks at police officers through his windows.
He spent most of Saturday morning on his roof, hurling tiles at police officers, while brandishing a large knife.
At one stage he appeared to wave a ‘white-flag’ made out of a sheet as he returned to the roof, after an extended period inside his house.
The Critical Incident Response Team negotiated with the individual throughout the day before the man tried to flee.
Nearby residents were advised to stay in their houses throughout the ordeal.
