A HALLAM plus-size bridal fashion designer is looking for a model to break the mould.

Designer Lyn Sukroo of Leah S Design Studios says it’s been difficult to find a size 16-20 model to showcase her 2013 catalogue of wedding gowns.

Finding a realistically proportioned model goes against the grain of the fashion industry — once dominated by size 6-8 models — but is more in keeping with “real women”, she says.

“The average size is size 14 so it’s changing for the better. Girls want to look at reality. We want more choice out there for plus-size models. We want to support our local community by giving up-and-coming models, or girls who are hoping to break into plus-sized modelling, their big break.”

She said the studios were created to give an option for size 18-30 brides wanting to “look gorgeous” on their wedding day.

“We think all women regardless of size are fabulous and beautiful. Our campaign is not only about challenging the stereotypes of what is takes to be a model, but also what is beautiful. We can fit the gown for all sorts of body types. We do a range that specialises in bigger bust and hips.”

The studios will hold interviews for prospective models from 11am-3pm on October 28. No previous experience is necessary. The winning model will receive a $1000 shopping centre voucher and portfolio photographs. Details: 9703 2198.
