Dandenong North schoolgirl killed by car

UPDATE: A 13-YEAR-old Dandenong High School student has died after being hit by a car outside the school yesterday.

Police say the Dandenong North girl was struck as she crossed Princes Highway, at the intersection of James Street, about 3.45pm.

The year 8 student was treated by paramedics for more than an hour then was flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital, where she died.

Dandenong High School principal Susan Ogden said psychologists had been called in to counsel staff and students.

‘‘Obviously this is a very distressing event. The thoughts of the whole school community is with the student’s family.

‘‘I’ve spoken to the family and my focus is to support the family and our students.’’

Police say they will prepare a report for the Coroner.
