WNBL: Rangers stop Bulleen in finals-style showdown

By ROY WARD

Dandenong Rangers overcame a relentless Bulleen Boomers at the Veneto Club on Saturday night, forcing themselves ahead in the final term to win 83-72 and keep pace with the Bendigo Spirit and Adelaide Lightning at the top of the WNBL ladder.

IT was the battle they needed and the result they had to have.

Rangers coach Mark Wright said the Rangers had needed a play-off style match as it pushed towards the finals.

“You would think I’m disappointed but I’m rapt with how we fought this thing out and got the win,” he said.

“We did a lot of things poorly but we can go back, look at it and rectify those problems.

“This was the sort of game we really needed, it was a tough, play-off style match and we came out on top.”

Rangers guard Kath Macleod led her side with 18 points and nine assists while the visitors o got outstanding efforts from centre Krista Phillips (16 points and 12 rebounds) and forward Tegan Cunningham (15 points and 13 rebounds).

Boomers star Rachel Jarry led her side with 18 points.

The Rangers hosted Sydney University Flames at Dandenong Stadium yesterday afternoon after the Journal went to print.
