GREATER Dandenong Council is trialing a solar-powered CCTV camera in response to difficulties getting cameras connected to the electricity grid.
Engineering services director Bruce Rendall told a council meeting last Monday that the trial had been spurred by “difficulties” dealing with energy companies in installing CCTV.
Acting chief executive Jody Bosman told the Journal that the council would evaluate the solar CCTV installed at the Paddy O’Donohue Centre car park, Noble Park, to see if it was “cost-effective and sustainable as a technology”.
He said the council would look at the CCTV’s reliability, the cost of the solar panel and energy cost savings.
“We’ll have the results early next year to see if it’s an option to go with.”
