College comes to the fore

KEYSBOROUGH college Haileybury has won the 2007 APS/AGSV Golf Championship over the weekend.
The tournament was held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club with 83 students from 21 schools competing.
The competition was tight, with seven schools within four strokes of one another.
Haileybury’s team was represented by James Egan (Mt Eliza), Ryan Magdziarz (Dingley), Matthew Armstrong (Mt Eliza) and Mark Grenda (Keysborough).
Head of golf Stephan McMahon said this year’s competition was the strongest and deepest the APS Golf Competition had ever experienced.
“The level of competition was certainly raised this year,” he said.
“Last year only two schools broke 240, however this year seven schools all scored below 240.
“Our team played outstandingly over the 18 holes, with lots of high pressure golf being played out on the challenging course.
“The boys showed great determination to come back from behind over the last nine holes, to clinch the APS/AGSV Golf Trophy by one shot.
“The high standard of golf this year makes this win all the more satisfying for our players.
“This is Haileybury’s second premiership in golf, the last being in 1999.” McMahon said.
