On the drug trail

A MOVIE, a forum and a tour combated drug and alcohol abuse this week as part of a nationwide drug education campaign.
Drug Action Week kicked off in Greater Dandenong with the screening of the movie Little Fish at the Drum Theatre last Monday.
The drug-related film was followed by a bus tour of the city’s drug treatment and support services on Tuesday; a forum involving Victoria Police and multicultural youth groups at the Paddy O’Donoghue Centre yesterday and a walking tour of the city’s drug-related criminal justice services today (Thursday).
The City of Greater Dandenong organised the events to help educate the community on the consequences of drug and alcohol abuse that costs Australia millions of dollars each year.
Greater Dandenong social development manager Mark Patterson said the week also paid tribute to the city’s hard-working anti-drug community groups and agencies.
“Effective alcohol and other drug programs save lives and help to reduce the impact of alcohol and other drug use on the community.”
