FAMED Australian jockey Peter Hutchinson will make a comeback to racing after the 2008 Spring Carnival, he revealed at a Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce breakfast this week.
Mr Hutchinson, who won more than 900 races in his career, including the 1993 Caulfield Cup, spoke at the chamber’s nomination breakfast for the Premier Regional Business Awards.
He said that racing had never left his blood and that he was in fit condition and would return to racing after this year’s Spring Carnival. Mr Hutchinson is known for his share of ups and downs as a premier jockey in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Just three days after his Caulfield Cup win in 1993, he was thrown from a horse and required back surgery.
Mr Hutchinson likened his love for racing to that of a footballer, saying he wouldn’t know what else to do if he left the industry.
Meanwhile, nominees at the breakfast were Injectronics, a remanufacturer of automotive components; Dandenong Pavilion, a popular restaurant in the heart of Dandenong; and Ceramic Fuel Cells, a manufacturer of fuel cells that convert gas to electricity.
The breakfast was one of five that the chamber will hold before the Gala Awards Dinner in March 2009.
A total of 15 nominees will vie for awards in the categories of manufacturing, corporate and social responsibility, retail, service excellence, innovation, employment, youth enterprise, small business, and the major prize, the Premier Regional Business Award.
