FOOTBALL FEDERATION VICTORIA – Dockerty Cup
SOUTH Springvale’s next challenge en route to the Dockerty Cup final will get physical.
It will be the Aris versus the Saints as South Springvale faces NPL1 soccer team St Albans in the cup semi-final on Wednesday night.
Following an emphatic 3-0 win over Hume FC in the Dockerty Cup quarter final, South Springvale coach Bill Lambropoulos said the hard work is ahead of them to knock off the Saints and advance past the final-four into the grand final.
“I’ve been out to watch St Albans against Bulleen Monday week ago,” Lambropoulos said.
“They’re a disciplined opposition and it’s going to be a very, very hard game.
“Physically they’re going to test us, but it’s 90 minutes of football and we’re going to give it all we’ve got.”
South Springvale will get Ricky Diaco and Nicholas Katsamboukas back from injury to make for a difficult selection meeting this week.
“We should get a little bit stronger – get a couple of boys back and still have a couple out,” Lambropoulos said.
“But it’s definitely going to be a tough decision to pick the starting 11 for Wednesday night.”
Lambropoulos encouraged all South Springvale fans and everyone in Greater Dandenong to rally behind the Aris boys on Wednesday night and make the trek out to Heidelberg’s Olympic Park Stadium.
South Springvale has also drawn South Cardiff in the FFA Cup to be played on 29 July at Kingston Heath SC.
“Worked out really well for us to play at home,” Lambropoulos said.
“We’re going to have great local support and that will give us a bit of a lift.
“The team we’ve drawn is as good as it could have been for a team like South Springvale and we’re looking forward to playing on a beautiful pitch at Kingston Heath and I think we’re going to enjoy the moment.”
Kick off between South Springvale and St Albans Saints FC is 7.30pm on Wednesday night at Olympic Park, Catalina Street, Heidelberg.
