A BREAKTHROUGH win over the distance was only a matter of time for promising stayer Lady Toy, and last Thursday proved to be her night.
The Norma Gost trained chaser showcased her slow start and run-on racing style by settling near last in the early stages, before unleashing her trademark finishing burst to run down her rivals in a smart 42.19.
The win was not only her first over 715m at Sandown park but her first over the staying trip, after previously having five attempts over the journey without a win.
Lady Toy has always taken a liking to Sandown Park having claimed her maiden win at the venue, she then went on to win her next two at the track and both from last place.
At just over two-years-of-age, Lady Toy has already amassed $56,423 in prize money and is likely to be heading for the Group 3 Top Cat Video Cup at The Meadows, with a cool $25,000 first prize up for grabs.
This Thursday night is Man’s Night at Sandown Park, with plenty of manlike activities including beer tasting, blackjack and golf just to name a few. The club aims to raise in excess of $20,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, details can be found at www.sandowngreyhounds.com.au.
