Pumas avenge loss

PREMIERSHIP glory did arrive within Greater Dandenong this season as one team managed to hold aloft the cup.
Following Lyndale’s senior team losing to Mount Waverley last weekend in the Southern Football League (SFL) Division-3 preliminary final, all eyes turned to the Pumas reserves to get the job done over Carrum Patterson Lakes and avenge the senior boys.
The Pumas struck hard after half-time, snaring six goals in the third term to build the buffer to 46 points by the final change.
The bigger cats in the final pounced in the last term – the Pumas mauled the Lions at the stoppages and around the goals to boot seven goals and take an emphatic 16.10 (106) to 5.9 (39) win.
Justin King lived up to his name as the forward monarch reigned supreme with six goals while Jared Henshaw (4 goals), Jeremy Vigliarolo, Brian Grundy and Nathan Welsh (2 goals apiece) rounded out the Pumas’ goalscorers.
Best on ground for the Dales was David Luong, while King, Edward Faamausili and Matt Smith also featured prominently.
It was Lyndale’s first reserves’ premiership since 2000 when the club also earned its last senior premiership.
The Division 3 senior grand final was marred by a melee that broke out in the crowd, forcing the cancellation of the game at half-time.
