Centre for calm Santa

Children with autism spectrum disorder are invited to Dandenong Plaza to celebrate Sensitive Santa, an event that caters to children with sensory sensitivities and allows them to enjoy one of the holiday’s most joyous memories – sitting on Santa’s lap.
Sensitive Santa runs from 19 November until 21 December (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only) between 8am and 9am.
The Santa area will become “sensory friendly,” meaning centre music will be turned down, staff will be instructed to avoid loud, distracting movements, and the centre will be closed to shoppers.
Dandenong Plaza will also provide each family that attends with a free photo keepsake.
“We wanted to create an event that celebrates the spirit of Christmas and brings a small, but memorable part of the festive season to families with autism,” said plaza manager Mark Tannahill.
“Sensitive Santa will allow these children to experience the same enjoyment with Santa, but in a much calmer, less intimidating environment.”
This is the first year that Dandenong Plaza will host the event.
Bookings are essential via the Dandenong Plaza Customer Service Desk on 9767 2000.
The Santa set is located on Level 3 outside Michael Hill.
Families are encouraged to use the Clow Street multideck car park.
