After 70 years of marriage, Alfred and Jennigje ‘Jenny’ Maslin still spend hours holding hands.
The couple celebrated their platinum anniversary on Wednesday 28 September at Noble Manor Aged Care in Noble Park, where they’ve lived for the past three years.
They immigrated to Australia from England in 1977 and have three sons, who all live locally.
Alf and Jenny met during the final months of World War II.
Alf was serving with the British Army and his unit was stationed in Holland, where Jenny lived and worked.
Alf brought Jenny back to Slough, Buckinghamshire, after the war and they married in a registry office on 28 September 1946.
The following year they had a second ceremony in a church in Jenny’s home town, Hengelo, in the Netherlands.
Their son Les and daughter-in-law Sue said Alf and Jenny were in good health for their ages, 94 and 93 respectively.
“They live happily together at Noble Manor and still spend many hours sitting side by side holding hands,” they said.
“It’s a real long-lasting love affair for a couple that could not understand each other the very first time they met.”
