Boy questioned after bomb scare forces evacuation of Springvale South school

By CAMERON LUCADOU-WELLS

A 10-YEAR-old boy has been cautioned by Greater Dandenong CIU detectives after two suspected explosive devices were found at a Springvale South school on Monday.

Detective Senior Constable Marisa Owens said Athol Road Primary School was evacuated after a staff member found the ‘‘home-made’’ devices at the rear of the school about 1.40pm.

The police’s bomb response unit assessed the devices, which were ‘‘not extremely complex’’, and taken away for further testing, she said.

‘‘One of the devices was burnt. We don’t believe it detonated,’’ Detective Owens said.

The site was declared safe for school staff to re-enter about 5.45pm
