Man charged over violent street attack

A Doveton man has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury to a fallen man kicked multiple times in the head in Dandenong.

The 47-year-old victim has been placed in a coma in The Alfred hospital’s intensive care unit with bleeding on the brain and a broken nose and ribs after the attack about 6.30am on Monday 10 June.

He had been walking along Lonsdale Street when he was approached, shoved and had a blanket thrown over his head by his alleged attacker.

In the Harley Heaven car park, the victim fell and the offender started kicking him, Greater Dandenong CIU detectives say.

As the victim tried to sit up, he was kicked several times in the face with “high force”, it is alleged.

The accused perpetrator walked away along Lonsdale Street with a female.

Witnesses called triple-0 to help the victim.

At 9.30pm, Greater Dandenong CIU arrested a 44-year-old Doveton man. He was charged and remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 11 June.
